I'm extremely happy to announce that we are expecting our first puppies here at Varulv Kennels between Ch. Taigakoira Aitosas Davvir - "Dukino" and Ch. Armahani Diamond Davvir (AI) CD RA JD AD - "Lumi". The puppies are expected to arrive on the 22nd of November.
eWe had a fantastic weekend starting off with an Obedience, Rally-O, and Agility day on Saturday with the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria. It was a fantastic day with two great instructors - Yvonne Ross for Obedience and Rally-O, and Tracy Benda for Agility.
It was Dukino's first time on some of the Agility equipment and she took quite well to most of it. Even the seesaw wasn't an issue when there was ham & chicken loaf involved! The tyre jump took a bit of getting used to but she got there in the end after it was turned on it's side for the the first few tries! Tracy was also kind enough to take some photos of Dukino on a couple of pieces of equipment before the end of the day. The Obedience and Rally area had us practising some basics including heeling, drops, sits, and stands, as well as some puppy push ups at the end. Yvonne also did a series of the stand for exam exercise with Dukino and I which I was extremely thankful for. We also worked on the dreaded drop while moving which Dukino wasn't thrilled about. We had one go through the Rally course towards the end of the day and were introduced to a couple of signs we hadn't seen in training before. It was a great day despite the heat with some fantastic people that I hadn't caught up with in a while, with a BBQ lunch included. I'm definitely looking forward to catching up with everyone again later this month at our speciality show. Sunday began with a last minute decision to head over to Northern Obedience Dog Club's Fun Day. I wasn't expecting anything special as Dukino was exhausted from the sports day, and upon arrival at the club I discovered that in true last minute fashion I'd even left my number holders at home. We managed to sort ourselves out pretty well before we went in the ring and Dukino did everything perfectly, except for the drops. She flat out refused to do it! I figured we had probably failed at this point but she had done so well on everything else and it was definitely worth the trip over for the experience and the company. We sat down with a couple of our human and doggie friends until the group sit stays, and down stays and Dukino flirted with the boys and mooched some food. The group sit stay, and the group down stays went amazingly well! Dukino finally did a drop for the down stay and proved that she knew what the word the word meant! Presentations were on after a BBQ lunch (can't have an event without a sausage sizzle) and for the Class 3 presentations our friends Kathryn and Archie took out third place, Isabella and Sunny took out second place and first place in junior handlers, and Dukino surprisingly managed to take out first place for the Class 3 ring! Dukino will be starting in Class 4 obedience at our next training session which will have us up to CCD level! |
